The emoticon, punctuation marks assembled to let an e-mail recipient know you’re only joking?or sad, or any other emotion?celebrated its 20th anniversary on Sept. 19. As Reuters reported, an IBM neural networks researcher named Scott Fahlman invented the 🙂 emoticon?called the smiley?as a way to indicate a joke during heated online bulletin board discussions. Now, online guides such as Techdictionary.com list more than 200 emoticons. See more at right.
