If you’re a BlackBerry Bold 9000 user on AT&T or a Verizon BlackBerry Tour 9630 owner, your device will likely be getting a new “official” OS update from Research In Motion (RIM) in the coming weeks.

I received the following AT&T information this morning from an AT&T corporate customer who was recently notified about the upcoming update:
“AT&T has approved the BlackBerry Bold Maintenance Release (v4.6.0.508). This release, which provides several enhancements, will become publically available on August 25, 2009 including via OTA.
What’s New / What’s Changed / What’s Launched
A number of enhancements are contained in the Maintenance Release including:
The Maintenance Release will be available to customers to download from August 25, 2009 and will be available from www.att.com/bbdownloads.”
Mobile blog BoyGeniusReport.com also claims to have heard from a Verizon source who says that the next Tour OS will be v4.7.1.42, though it’s unclear when exactly the software will become available. Potential fixes or enhancements in Tour OS v.4.7.1.42 are also unknown at this point.
The latest official BlackBerry handheld OS for the Bold via AT&T is v4.6.0.438, while the most recent BlackBerry Tour OS from Verizon is 4.7.1.40.
If everything goes as expected, AT&T should release the new Bold OS next Tuesday, but corporate customers may get the update first. The Verizon Tour update is simply a rumor at this point, but it comes from a site with a proven track record for breaking BlackBerry-related news.
