Both BES updates are meant to resolve a number of known issues within the corporate software. More specifically, BES 5.0 SP1 MR2 for Microsoft Exchange fixes bugs related to the BES BlackBerry Administration Service, BlackBerry Attachment Service, the BlackBerry Messaging Agent and device calendar synchronization, among other things.

And the BES 5.0 SP1 MR1 for Lotus Domino fixes problems related to BES activation, the BlackBerry MDS Connection Service, BlackBerry Policy Service and device calendar synchronization, among other issues.

BlackBerry admins planning to install either of the new updates on a computer running Windows 2003 should first read the associated release notes for the update to ensure a smooth transition, according to RIM.

Both the Exchange and Domino maintenance release are the first such BES 5.0 SP1 updates of the year–the last significant release came in late 2009.
