Plus: New CIOs at Alere Medical and OrthoSynetics

The TJX Companies announced last Friday, June 8, that it had appointed Safeway’s CIO David Ching to its board of directors. Ching, 54, has served as SVP and CIO of the Safeway grocery and drug store chain since 1994. Previously, he worked for a consulting firm geared toward the retail and distribution industries. He also previously served as SVP of information systems with Lucky Stores. According to the press release TJX issued, the discount apparel and home furnishings retailer tapped Ching for his retail, distribution and IT experience. Last January, TJX reported a massive data breach that cost the company $12 million in its first financial quarter of the year alone.

Douglas Albro joined Alere Medical as its new EVP and CIO. He comes to the Reno, Nev.-based health management company from BCBS Excellus in Rochester, NY. There, he led information services and medical informatics. Prior to BCBS Excellus, he worked for Humana and was responsible for the health insurance company’s networks and IT infrastructure.

OrthoSynetics, which manages business and marketing functions for dental and orthodontics offices, hired Tim Tiffin as its new CIO. Tiffin has 23 years of experience in IT and is no stranger to the world of healthy teeth and gums. He most recently served as CIO and COO of South Texas Dental, and prior to that was CIO and VP of operations at Castle Dental/Bright Now. He also has experience in the mortgage industry, having served as SVP and COO of mortgage field services company First National Net.
