Silicon.com reported that Paul Burfitt retired from AstraZeneca last week after a seven year tenure as the drug company’s global CIO. Rich Williams, worked for AstraZeneca since 1992, succeeds Burfitt.
John Wheeler, SVP and CIO of Nova Chemicals, is retiring from the Pittsburgh, Pa.-based plastic-maker after 8 years with the company. His last day on the job is August 31. Wheeler’s retirement coincides with a restructuring Nova Chemicals announced last June, which involves streamlining the executive management team. Wheeler is 62.
The United States’ Department of Education appointed a new CIO. William Vajda joins the Education Department from the DoD and the Treasury Department, where he held senior positions. In his new role, he will advise Secretary Margaret Spellings, her deputy and under-secretaries on all matters related to IT.
CanWest MediaWorks Publications hired Edward Brouwer as its new vice president and CIO. Brouwer has worked in the newspaper business for over 15 years, most recently as VP and CIO of Metroland. In his new position, Brouwer is responsible for specification, installation, operations and maintenance of key print software systems within CanWest’s Publications group, which includes the National Post.
