Bill Vass
Sun Microsystems promoted its CIO Bill Vass (at left) to president and COO of the company’s subsidiary, Sun Microsystems Federal.  Vass succeeds John Marselle, who is retiring after 20-years with Sun.  Replacing Vass in the CIO role is Vass’s VP of IT, Robert Worrall (at right, below.)  Worrall was selected as one of CIO’s Ones to Watch this year.

Beleaguered food distributor Nash Finch Co. named Calvin S. Sihilling EVP and CIO last week. Sihilling is responsible for overseeing process development and controls across the company, in addition to IT.  He comes to the Minneapolis-based company from AmeriCold Logistics, where he was responsible for IT, transportation, project support, and the company’s national service center. During his five-year enture as AmeriCold’s CIO, Sihilling, improved transportation programs and turned around underperforming areas of the company.  Prior to AmeriCold, he was CIO of the Eastern Region of Richfood Holdings/SuperValu for three years. In the ten years prior, he was vice president of information systems at Alex Lee Inc.

Pacific Capital Bancorp fired its CIO. 

Kristen Blum is the new CIO at Abercrombie & Fitch.  She replaced Roger Coville

CompuCredit CIO Guido Sacchi was appointed to the board of directors of the Technology Association of Georgia

Public CIO reports that non-profit Public Technology Institute elected Tallahassee, Fla. CIO Don DeLoach to its board of directors.
