The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) elected George Hickman (pictured at left) chairman of its board.  Hickman currently serves as senior vice president and CIO of Albany Medical Center Hospital.

On July 1, James Hilton began his new job as VP and CIO of the University of Virginia (UVA), according to the Cavalier Daily, the University’s newspaper.  Notably, Hilton does not have a traditional IT background. He became associate provost for academic information technology at the University of Michigan—the position he held before he moved to UVA—after serving as a psychology professor. To learn more about Hilton and why UVA hired him, read the article in the Cavalier Daily.

On June 22, James Froisland joined Material Sciences Corp. as its new SVP, CFO, CIO and corporate secretary. He most recently served as SVP, CFO and CIO at staffing firm InteliStaf Healthcare and previously held senior financial positions with USA Broadband, Burns International Services, Anixter International and Budget Rent A Car.

On June 9, Preferred Care Partners hired Doug Cormany as its SVP and CIO.  The growing Miami-based company selected Cormany in part for his experience consolidating systems following acquisitions.  Cormany most recently served as SVP and CIO at another staffing firm—Spherion—where he led the reengineering of new business processes in the United States, Europe and Asia Pacific.  Previously, he was VP and CIO of NationsRent where he was recruited to reorganize the IS department and helped support the company’s growth through acquisition strategy.
