Thanks to the reader who informed me that Fred Matteson (pictured at left), SVP and CIO of Fireman’s Fund, has left that company. (A PR person with Fireman’s Fund confirmed that Matteson, who joined the company at the end of 2003, is no longer an employee.) His last day was Monday, January 16. Fireman’s Fund has not yet named a replacement.CIO honored Fireman’s Fund this year with a CIO-100 award for the insurance company’s effort to transform its business. During 2005, Matteson took steps to implement a service oriented architecture which included outsourcing a portion of his IT department to IBM so that he could focus his internal staff’s efforts on high-value projects rather than maintenance of legacy systems.
