Rick Beers (pictured at left) left his post as director of business process architecture at Corning and joined Bausch and Lomb as vice president of information technology. Beers had worked for Corning for 32 years. Thanks to the friendly reader who told me that Elinor MacKinnon has been promoted to senior vice president and CIO at Blue Shield of California. Her promotion went into effect October 3, 2005. She replaces David Bowen, who left the company on August 19, 2005. Good old Government Computer News reported that Charlie Armstrong was appointed deputy CIO of the Department of Homeland Security under Scott Charbo. Armstrong, who moved into his new position last month, had most recently served as CIO of DHS’s Border and Transportation Directorate. GCN has the low-down on Armstrong and his new role. The St. Louis Post Dispatch reported that St. Anthony’s Medical Center hired Gordon Lashmett as its CIO. He most recently worked for St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Ill. as its director of IT.
