This just in! Ameritrade promoted its CIO Asiff Hirji to COO today. Hirji is now responsible for leading the operations and business development functions. He joins three other CIOs who last week moved into operations. Hirji succeeds Peter Ricketts, who resigned from the Omaha, Neb.-based company last week to find work in the public sector. Hirji will continue to serve as CIO until Ameritrade finds someone else to lead IT. He joined the brokerage firm in April 2003 from Bain & Co. At Bain, he lead the IT strategy practice as a VP in its New York office.
