A CIO client of mine was recently invited to attend an event that promised to explore issues of language between ‘the business’ and ‘IT’ and how to resolve them.

He spent the whole evening waiting for the obvious irony in the subject to be revealed and debated.  If you’re involved with IT and want to be taken seriously as a fully-fledged member of the business team, dividing the world into ‘the business’ and ‘IT’ is a fundamental error of language (and mindset) from which many others flow.

However, the irony was never revealed as none was intended….
