Computer issues halt trading on New York Stock Exchange

The NYSE cited an unspecified 'technical issue'

New York Stock Exchange shortly after trading was halted

A computer glitch halted trading on the New York Stock Exchange about 11:30 a.m. ET Wednesday.

The problems at the NYSE were attributed to an unspecified "technical issue."

"NYSE has temporarily suspended trading in all symbols," the market said in a message to traders. "All open orders will be cancelled. Additional information will follow as soon as possible."

The problems at the stock exchange occurred just hours after United Airlines was forced to cancel numerous flights after reporting technical problems of its own. There was no indication the two incidents were related.

Media reports cited comments from stock exchange officials that the problem was "internal" and was not the result of a cyberattack.

Developing story. More to come.
