RIM today updated BlackBerry App World, and the company is also expected to soon unveil the next major version of App World.

BlackBerry smartphone users can today update their BlackBerry App World mobile software stores to v1.1.0.35.

It’s unclear what kinds of tweaks or enhancements are packed into the minor update, as RIM has not yet released change notes, but they’re likely performance- and not feature-related. (UPDATE: According to RIM’s Twitter account, BlackBerry App World v1.1.0.35 now lets you “read reviews over Wi-Fi.”)

If you’re not prompted to update upon opening App World on your device, you can also find the latest version by surfing over to BlackBerry.com/AppWorld using your BlackBerry browser.

What’s more exciting than the minor App World update is the fact that RIM will very likely drop App World v.2.0 in the coming weeks. In fact, I’ve been invited to an “exclusive” RIM event next week in New York City that just may turn out to be the BlackBerry App World 2.0 unveiling.

Here’s some text from the RIM invite I received:

“BlackBerry invites you to step into a new world at an exclusive event. Experience what’s new in BlackBerry App World and bring your BlackBerry to customize it with applications, accessories and more!”

And the invite was titled “Rock Your App World.”

It’s unclear whether or not BlackBerry App World 2.0 will be shown off at this event, but it’s certain the announcement will at least be App World-related. Even if RIM does announce App World 2.0 next week, it still could be days or weeks before the software becomes publicly available.

Check-in next week to the Mobile WorkHorse blog for my coverage of the New York App World event.
