One of the best ways to grow the business and secure the top talent is through effective interviewing. You need to learn more about a candidate to ensure they are a good fit for your business, while also reaching out to them and making them want to work for you. Many people downplay the interview process or fail to understand how important it is. The hottest job prospects for post-graduation millennials

It’s coming up on graduation time for the young hopefuls of the class of 2017. They’re all looking to get employed in the recovering job market, but should they be prepared to face an uphill battle in their quest for gainful employment? There is some good news for millennials out there. Such a low unemployment rate, coupled with growth in job sectors such as technology and healthcare, are creating a favorable job market for the young and eager job seekers. So what should these up-and-comers be focusing on?

Get the job by sharpening soft skills

Your resume and connections can shepherd you in the door as an ideal candidate, but having the technical skills needed is just one of many parts of applying for a job. As well as showing off that you have the training and education needed, job applicants need to showcase their soft skills and use them to connect to the interviewer. Soft skills are skills in personal management and people skills. Improve your interpersonal skills and you’ll dramatically increase your chances of landing a job. Finding and hiring dream employees

Given that the unemployment rate is so low, it means your dream employee is either working, or is about to be snatched up. Talent, much like a sales prospect, mobilizes towards the “best fit” environment, which includes geographic, demographic and reputation considerations. Millennials look for opportunities to make an impact on the world and want to succeed on a team with shared goals and values. That’s why you need to differentiate your company as much as possible and how you market your business will mirror potential hires attracted to your company. Based on REBR 2017 research, many employees are more susceptible to the following attributes than organizations seem to realize. After an attractive salary and long-term job security – mentioned by 58% and 46% respectively in this report by Randstad as important attributes to attractiveness of an organization – 45% mention a good work-life balance and 43% a pleasant work atmosphere as key contributors to company attractiveness. Improving the hiring process is the beginning, middle, and end of landing the best talent. For a start, you need to ensure you create an effective job posting. It needs to grab attention and showcase just what you need an employee to be able to do. You also need to improve the initial screening process. When only the best reach the interview phase, you’ll employ, well, only the best.

Automation will change jobs, with retraining welcome

Significant numbers of respondents from the study above believe automation will have a positive effect on their job. In North America and Europe, 30% and 32% respectively of the employees believe automation will make their job better. In Latin America and Asia Pacific, people are even more optimistic, as 55% and 52% respondents feel this way. Almost 40% of all employees surveyed feel that automation will have no effect on their job.

As automation reduces routine tasks and frees up time for employees to work on more heuristic--rather than algorithmic--activities, it will also make certain skill sets obsolete. As a result, companies may need to put more emphasis on retraining. When asked about their opinion on retraining, 58% of employees worldwide would be happy to, provided that the pay would stay the same or become better. The numbers for Europe (49%) and North America (51%) are slightly lower than the global average, and are significantly higher in Latin America (69%) and APAC (69%).

It’s still early to predict how automation, training, job growth and millennial expectations will integrate over the next few years. But the shift is happening with job growth in the tech sector moving in an upward direction. Which makes it necessary for companies to adapt to this shift now so they can be positioned properly to retain their top talent, and hire on new employees as they begin to grow. One certainty: It’s a good thing to work through growing pains right now and be prepared for future growth ahead of the upcoming competition from other tech companies.
