Tesco banking CIO takes over at easyJet

Airline easyJet has announced its new CIO, Chris Brocklesby, who has been CIO of the Tesco startup bank. Brocklesby started work at the Luton-based airline yesterday and is working with CIO Trevor Didcock during the handover, a spokesperson confirmed to CIO UK.

Didcock announced to CIO UK recently that he was stepping down from easyJet after an incredibly successful career with the airline and becoming the number one in the CIO 100 in 2012.

Brocklesby began his career at Tesco in January 2007, moving to the financial services arm in April 2012. Brocklesbury began his career at Accenture.

Didcock has been with easyJet since 2010 and instrumental in the transformation of what is today's Europe's largest airline by passenger numbers. As CIO Didcock led the company wide Turn Europe Orange transformation project, a true business wide change management programme that touched every aspect of the business and resulted in easyJet disrupting the low cost airline business with the introduction of allocated seating.

Recently Didcock created a long term strategy for easyJet to re-architect its technology to ensure the organisation remains able to grow and be agile through having a platform for the business to develop its technology offering from. Didcock and easyJet also recently completed the integration of its dynamic pricing model, which disrupted the airline industry on the launch of easyJet, into the major corporate travel booking platforms such as Sabre.

New CIO Brocklesby will take on the strategy and implement it as easyJet continues to grow, as CIO of Tesco bank Brocklesby was transformational in ensuring the bank had agile systems that would allow it to be more responsive than existing high street banks.

Derek Tucker, who joined Tesco Bank in January 2012 as its IT Development Director, has taken over as CIO. Last month Tesco CIO Mike McNamara also left the retail giant when he moved stateside to Target, one of the largest retailers in the US.

In 2012 CIO UK rebooted its CIO 100 to celebrate the transformational role of CIOs and placed Didcock as the number one CIO in the CIO 100, he has remained in the top end of the CIO 100 since. The CIO 100 judging panel unanimously agree that Didcock is a transformational CIO with strong influence at board level, an ability to represent the IT team as a broker in the business and his winning statement was he's "a change junkie".
