Russ Kaurloto


Russ Kaurloto is VP of Information Technology and CIO at Clemson University, a 130-year-old public research university located in South Carolina in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. He manages the university’s Computing and Information Technology (CCIT) division that provides services to faculty and students across seven colleges, including all hardware and software resources, learning technologies, cyber-security infrastructures and innovation initiatives.

Previously, Russ was Deputy CIO and Assistant General Manager for the City of Los Angeles, overseeing IT support for 35,000 employees across 41 departments in 704 buildings across the sprawling LA area, including 911 communications for police and fire departments. Before that, he was Deputy CIO and Operations Manager the University of Southern California (USC,) where he was responsible for services for the university’s 19 schools and had an active role in developing classroom and educational technologies.

Russ also spent 22 years at The Associated Press where, as Western Region executive director and chief of communication, he managed communications, technical operations and IT support services for more than 1,500 newspapers, radio, TV, financial institutions and AP offices across 17 Western states.

Kaurloto is an expert in driving IT strategic objectives that enable transformational change; implementing advanced IT solutions; and leading and motivating IT staff and business peers to do their best. He is a graduate of California Lutheran University with a BS in Organizational Leadership.
