Suffolk County Council has been widely discussed in local government circles in recent years following its announcement in September 2010 that it was seeking an outsource partner to run large parts of its services. The East Anglian authority is attempting to cut its budget by 30 per cent. Suffolk County Council is run by 72 elected councillors and responsible for 63 wards. Strategic aim of the CIO and IT operations for the next financial year:Application rationalisation and reduction of costs. Simplification- incorporate IT security and standards, making it simpler for the authority. Collaboration- getting more for the public purse and working together for a common cause with other parts of the council. Collaboration is highly important to manage own agenda. SOCTIM is active in collaboration- professional bodies that look professional- is also an IT pressure group. Founder of East of England CIO forum, which has 10 county council CIO's. Member of Suffolk ICT leader's forum, which includes all the ICT leaders of government units. Lead for SOCTIM on ICT leadership and on the local government PSN steering group. Strategic development- Cloud adoption, hardware estate development e.g. tablets, aggregated shared services. Technologies considered by the leader to offer their organisation potential:Cloud, ERP, flexible working opportunities, delivery of social care, delivery of educational systems, delivery of environment and transport systems, thin client development. Future transformation and technology vision for the organisation:Looking for ICT to take a greater grip on transformation for the organisation, increasing its influence and control within the organisation. This will involve reviewing and potentially re-organising the way that the organisations business areas currently manage and control IT and IT related finances- this is likely to involve a full council operating model re-design for IT
