Jaguar Land Rover is once again a single manufacturing business. The two makers of luxury cars, SUVs and military off-road vehicles were once British state owned as part of British Leyland, today they are single company, but owned by the Indian Tata Motors corporation which bought the two firms from US automotive maker Ford in 2008. Under Tata the company has expanded considerably and during the downturn been a manufacturing good story for the British economy as its financial basis crashed. In March 2011 it added 1500 staff to its Halewood factory, followed by an announcement in September 2011 that it was investing £355 million in a new engine factory in Wolverhampton and then in November 2011 it announced a 25 per cent increase in its workforce at its Solihull location. Sales of its Range Rover SUV remain globally strong and a new model was added the Range Rover Evoque in 2011.
