What impact will it/does it have on the organisation?1) an improved IT service and 2) more efficient clinical and operational processes, and better patient outcomes. Name your strategic technology suppliers?HP, EMC, Cisco What is the IT budget?About £5 million pa What is the strategic aim of the CIO and IT operations for the next financial year?Continue the infrastructure refresh, further develop the Shared Service idea and assess potential replacements for the main clinical system Transformation achievements Would you describe the CIO role as a transformation leader in your organisation?Yes, but it's probably not recognised as such throughout the organisation Describe the transformations you have led / been involved in, how did they transform operations, customer experience or the organisation?I have led numerous IT Shared Services programmes, which have resulted in a more cost effective way of delivering IT, as well as improved customer services. Beyond technology, can you describe a business transformation programme that you own or contribute to?Business analysis – gaining a proper understanding of business operations to assess how technology can be better exploited. What key technologies are being considered to enable transformation?BYOD & Wireless, to improve on-site accessibility to services What percentage of your applications / infrastructure is run from the Cloud?The NHS is still very nervous about Cloud, so all services are run in-house. How is the use by employees of their own technology, use of mobiles and social networking impacting operations, customer experiences or the organisation at present?It's still evolving. Some BYOD functionality is being trialled, but the full implications are not really obvious at the moment. The real benefits will come when patient information is made more widely available to clinicians, but the security protocols need further development to allow this. Do you have a plan in place for how to deal with shadow IT and BYOD. How do you influence and engage executives, place the right controls around employee choice and engage with the organisation on this issue?The discussions with executives is ongoing, and the outcome of the pilot will provide useful information as to what the overall direction should be. Where do you seek transformational inspiration from?Colleagues, peers and material such as CIO magazine. Also, in a hospital, seeing patients everyday provides an inspiration to drive IT quality forward.
