Holding millions of documents and expected to last for several years, the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) constitutes the world's biggest ever inquiry. Chris Price, its IT and Digital Director, spent 2017 putting the building blocks in place turn an IT greenfield site into the first fully SaaS, PaaS and IaaS body in the public sector. His successful acquisition and integration of the core enabling systems during a period of rapid organisational growth has been a key underpinning success factor for IICSA. Key to his success has been his ability to engage ministers and senior public servants with skilfully executed relationship management. Price has rapidly produced – and executed – a digital, IT and IS solution that balanced the need for speed while acknowledging the unique aspects of the inquiry. Blending 30+ years of ICT industry experience with consultation with stakeholders, he developed a meaningful, customer-centric roadmap and forward plan. As for the next stage, he is sponsoring technology-based innovations – in particular, analytics (big data and insight), machine learning and AI – to understand how they can benefit IICSA.
