Brought into European Tyre Enterprise specifically to place IT at the heart of the business, fully aligning with the business strategy, and creating a single tech organisation for the organisation, Group IT Director David Willock has got his hands full. European Tyre’s parent company Itochu bought the Stapleton's tyre wholesale business way back in 1995 and Kwik Fit in 2011, but until his appointment last year the IT organisations, infrastructures and applications had largely remained separate. There is only so much change an organisation can take, and Willock has focused to date on IT stabilisation and people/supplier performance. In 2017 his team migrated the business-critical wholesale and retail applications to resilient third-party data centres. And he has brought 1,000 email users onto a reliable platform that has made multiple failures every day a thing of the past. Willock has also started work on the future. Handheld tablets that technicians can use to log, track and sign off each job are already being rolled out and the programme will be complete in early 2018. As part of the tablet rollout, the capture of rich customer data will help improve customer communications – for example, reminding customers about their next tyre check at an appropriate time given their average mileage, or offering a loyalty discount for the customer's next MoT.
