Matthew Reynolds was appointed by English Premier League outfit Southampton FC as its first IT Director in July 2015, reporting to the club's managing director and CEO. His focus – to make Southampton "digital to the core" and transform its commercial, retail, football and business operations using new tools and automating processes to free up peoples' time. As IT director Reynolds has been rolling out SaaS products to streamline HR, finance and business operations, deploying collaboration tools, improving mobility and developing a self-service data science capability to try and help give Southampton a competitive advantage in the ruthless world of professional sport. Reynolds is investigating how machine learning and wearable tech can have an impact at Saints, but believes these newer technologies need to align with the club's goals and its broader IT strategy.
