At Petrofac, new Group CIO Allan Cockriel is helping to unlock the digital ambitions of the company, which designs, builds, operates and maintains gas and oil facilities. Since joining at the start of 2018, he has pivoted the IT function into a full digital transformation to differentiate the business from the competition and to drive measurable productivity improvements To lift productivity, improve health and safety, and give the leadership the insights needed to consistently deliver on budget and on site in very remote and challenging environments, Cockriel's team is exploring IoT, machine learning, analytics and remote edge computing. He is using gamification, in-house innovation competitions and rotational programmes to create a digital by default culture. A suite of digital products is being co-developed to leverage big data, connected assets, digital twinning, machine learning and advanced mobile. The resulting products will be launched in 2019. Cockriel is also investing in programmes to digitise advanced engineering and integrated planning, and is introducing a digital thread concept to help drive global consistency. The entire IT estate is to be upgraded, and consolidation driven into the cloud.
