2009 Winner Profile

BayCare Health System

Project Description:
BayCare Health deployed a system to identify hospital patients using palm scanners that recognize unique hand veins in patients. According to the company, the palm scanner system eliminates a two-percent duplication rate in records and a problem with overwritten patient records, ensuring proper patient identification and safer care. The system has also improved the speed of the identification process, reducing patient registration time and allowing care attendants to pull medical records in seconds when the patient has previously received care at a BayCare hospital.
