2009 Winner Profile

JetBlue Airways

Project Description:
Using new airport technologies, JetBlue launched a modern terminal at New York's Kennedy Airport with 30 percent fewer ticket counters and an array of services including food kiosks that deliver meals straight to a travelers gate. The company replaced the computers supporting its service counters with thin-client appliances for self-service check-in. A service-oriented architecture consolidated servicing and messaging capabilities to streamline systems ranging from the automated baggage system to the travel display systems. Since the new terminal opened at in October 2008, the company has saved more than $1 million in operating costs, with benefits to 1 million travelers and 40,000 flights.
