As an enhancement to its demand-side management program, PG&E added capabilities that allow customers to tailor their usage to their business needs and encourages customers with SmartMeters to shift their energy usage away from peak hours. Customers also can access details about their previous day's energy usage online. With over 10,000 customers signed up for the new DSM program, customer electricity usage has been reduced by approximately 16 percent, eliminating more than 1.6 million tons of carbon dioxide, which is equivalent to taking almost 220,000 cars of the road for one year.
