The Ontario Public Service Careers Island is a virtual world within SecondLife that provides users with a tour of government work environments designed to tout the merits of public service employment. This virtual experience enhances traditional outreach mechanisms such as print advertising in order to appeal to young recruits. OPS expects the Careers Island to save up to $100,000 in career outreach over a three-year period. The agency reports about 800 unique visitors from around the world. Eighty percent of users rated their experience with the site as good to excellent.
