2013 Winner Profile

EMC Corp.

Project Description:
EMC replaced the business-critical systems, including more than 150 legacy systems, that run the $21.7 billion company. The 29-month program, code-named PROPEL, also involved replacing outdated, near-capacity ERP and product data management systems with SAP systems running on a virtualized cloud infrastructure. EMC embraced standardized processes for easier support and upgrades, and developed an application integration cloud to reduce integration points for legacy and new cloud-based applications. To achieve the project goals of strengthening and simplifying business processes and improving visibility into the business, the team used industry best practices and solutions rather than customizing SAP. The team also adopted standard SAP business processes, which required significant change management within the company. In addition to achieving its stated objectives, the project reduced overall IT costs by more than $2 million a year and produced millions of dollars in business efficiencies.
