Project Description:
Superstorm Sandy destroyed key elements of the medical center's IT and communications infrastructure. However, by relying on a variety of technologies, the center not only recovered quickly from the major disaster but was able to simultaneously implement a new network architecture, new electronic health record platform and a data center consolidation program. Within 48 hours of the storm's arrival, two mobile data centers-equipped with a combination of IP telephony, chat and video conferencing and SharePoint-were designed to help restore the center's vital IT services, such as voice and data connectivity, and run its disaster-recovery capabilities. This restored infrastructure is now considerably more agile and robust than before and enabled the center to resume clinical and educational operations within 6 days.
