2013 Winner Profile

Qualcomm, Inc.

Project Description:
Support for Qualcomm's lab for testing wireless chipsets, which had been spread out among IT and engineering locations, was replaced by a centralized IT Wireless Support (ITWS) system. The result is improved quality: defects per million have dropped from 10,000 to less than 300. It's reduced testing time per chip from two minutes to 40 seconds, allowing for faster release of more accurate chips. And ITWS has replaced six simulators, costing $1.4 million, with a single $90,000 system, reducing the need for floor space and staff.
