2013 Winner Profile

Verizon Wireless

Project Description:
Verizon Wireless was the first wireless carrier to launch Share Everything plans that allow consumers to share unlimited minutes and text messages and a data allowance among up to ten lines. Since previously the company traced customer usage by line rather than by account, offering Share Everything meant overhauling most of Verizon Wireless' core systems. Business operations such as sales, customer service and back-end accounting were affected as well. IT took the risk of completely redesigning core systems that support wireless billing and sales, rather than merely tweaking them for the new offering. This had to be done carefully to avoid disrupting ongoing operations, but it positioned Verizon Wireless to more easily support new shared-account products, such as a data-sharing plan for businesses that was launched in January.
