Tackling one of the biggest retirement fears of Baby Boomers -- having adequate lifetime income -- led CUNA Mutual to develop an animated, interactive tablet application for annuity income planning. The $13 billion diversified financial services company created its iDIA system to simplify the sales process, using gamification-like visuals to create a financial illustration of the customer's lifetime retirement "paycheck." The sophisticated actuarial mathematics involved are mercifully calculated behind the scenes with a high-performance, in-memory computing model. Within nine months of iDIA's launch, CUNA Mutual reached its $20 million sales target for deferred income annuities, and a 31 percent jump in the number of advisors selling the annuity products.
