When Harley-Davidson executives looked at global consumer trends and challenges brought on by the recession that began in 2009, they determined the company needed to significantly enhance its capabilities to improve brand value and ensure business growth. That transformation included product development, manufacturing and retail -- with IT being an integral part. Harley-Davidson built a team of IT experts from inside and outside the company to drive organizational transformation. As part of an overall company transformation, the IT organization was redesigned to innovate and enable new technology adoption while reducing risk. New capabilities include mixed vehicle platform manufacturing on a single assembly line, state-of-the-art online experience for customers and significant back-office improvements. Also, projects are completed faster and on time, which means realizing the business benefits sooner than ever.
