PG&E is using a unique combination of technologies at its emergency base camps that enable the company to more quickly and efficiently restore gas and electric service to customers following a natural disaster such as an earthquake or storm. With these technologies -- including portable microwave towers, multi-function devices, Wi-Fi mobile carts, radio in a box and a mobile dispatch system -- the utility is essentially extending its network to a remote location, enabling PG&E's base camp personnel can dispatch crews, execute emergency services and communicate to all employees from remote locations.
