2015 Winner Profile

Whirlpool Corp.

Project Description:
Whirlpool launched "Clothespin," an app that connects commercial laundry machines (washers and dryers) through wireless cloud communications to smartphones and laundry equipment service providers. The Clothespin mobile app saves time for users and eliminates the frustrations associated with coins and change machines. With Clothespin, students, apartment dwellers, and others who use commercial (coin-operated) laundry machines can use their smartphones to remotely check for available washers and dryers, pay for their laundry with MasterCard or Visa, and receive notifications when their laundry cycles are complete. The system also generates benefits for the commercial laundry service providers, including allowing them to remotely change prices based on demand, time of day and location; track machine use; and provide users with promotions and loyalty programs.
