2015 Winner Profile

Yale New Haven Health Services Corp.

Project Description:
Intensive care units (ICUs) were faced with a challenge: how to provide real-time patient monitoring and enhance patient care during overnight hours, in conjunction with the healthcare organization's Epic electronic medical records (EMR) system. The resulting Yale New Haven Health Tele-ICU program is the first fully integrated application for teleconferencing and patient monitoring within the Epic EMR system. The system lets remote clinicians constantly monitor patients' vital signs and other data from a control center at the hospital's IT headquarters. They can then alert physicians and nurses at a patient's bedside of a change in the patient's condition and work with the doctors and nurses to determine the most appropriate care.
