Project Description:
To detect and improve issues early in the small-package network, United Parcel Service launched its Near Real-Time Service Performance Reporting (NRT) tool. NRT captures as many as 8,700 data points per second which includes package pick-ups, transfers and deliveries and displays them in web-based dashboards. Though UPS already had access to this transactional system data, NRT introduced a new event integration/aggregation model and a low-latency data mart built on Microsoft SQL Server Parallel Data Warehouse. During peak season, for example, NRT provides visibility into that status of as many as 40 million packages per day and more than 550 million packages delivered between Black Friday and Christmas Day.
