2016 Winner Profile

San Francisco International Airport

Project Description:
With the emergence of Transportation Network Companies (TNCs) such as Uber, Lyft and Wingz in 2013, those new TNC offerings began to undermine an important source of income for the International Airport's income base. In an effort to combat loss of revenue, SFO Airport staff, including IT interns, designed and developed a new Application Based Commercial Transport system (ABCT). The new, innovative system leverages the TNC drivers' mobile phones, to monitor and manage the operations of TNCs throughout SFO's facilities and properties. SFO is the first airport in the US to implement a system to manage TNCs, which generated over $10M in revenue for SFO in its first year of operation.
