2016 Winner Profile

Project Description:
To compete in the small satellite arena, Raytheon designed a specialized factory that produces low volume, build-to-print products at a low cost. Called the Smart Factory, the assembly, integration and test capabilities within it use integrated sensors and video monitoring to establish a complete record of the satellite build process. The project required integrating ERP and business management processes without disrupting ongoing factory operations. This was achieved through the integration of the Apache Hadoop, sensor fusion and streaming analytics to enable an environment where machine intelligence tracks and manages the manufacturing process from end to end. Through partnerships and collaboration with IT, operations and engineering, this project opened up opportunities in an estimated $7.4B small satellite market.
