2016 Winner Profile

NewYork-Presbyterian

Project Description:
At the NewYork-Presbyterian (NYP) Burn Unit, photographing patient wounds provides staff with vital information about each patient's treatment and recovery but the process to upload the photos was costly, inefficient and time-consuming. To remedy the issue, NYP's IT department collaborated to develop an application that integrates with the hospital's existing electronic medical record. Rather than create an electronic version of a medical record, NYP Care+ also enables collaboration, education and patient engagement. For example, it includes a clinical image capture feature, enables providers to enter and upload information in real-time, and ensures that doctors are prepared for any interaction with the patient. As a result, the photo upload feature alone which traditionally took 9 to 10 minutes has saved providers 100 hours of time every month.
