2016 Winner Profile

Monsanto Company

Project Description:
Monsanto's Ancestry-as-a-Service uses graph-based data science to enable mining the complete genetic history of its pipeline, from the older discovery breeding cross to the newest commercial product. Its focus is to create integrated yield platforms consisting of seeds, traits, treatments and information services that promote sustainable agriculture and enable its small and large farmer customers globally. To address the need to expand its pipeline, it began focusing on using data science methods to make predictive and prescriptive decisions about which seeds are best suited for which on-farm environments, as well as which seeds in the early R&D pipeline will have the highest probability of on-farm success. Products leveraging Ancestry-as-a-Service have enabled a cumulative net present value of more than $4B.
