2016 Winner Profile

CLP Group

Project Description:
As CLP's regional wind generation portfolio increased, its cumbersome processes and technology which included the use of Excel to store, manipulate and analyze manually gathered data were no longer sufficient. Enter its new system, RenewableNet. RenewableNet uses sensors to collect data from each wind turbine automatically and every one to ten seconds. This includes 40 different operating data points such as wind speed, wind direction, temperature, humidity, system warnings, component status and equipment health. Data is transmitted instantly via a communication networks to a centralized data historian platform and then used for analysis. The project resulted in a 30 percent output efficiency improvement, maintenance and operations cost savings of 21 percent, more timely and accurate decision making, improved certainty and risk reduction for new investments, as well as a range of productivity, process controls and data security enhancements.
