2017 Winner Profile

Project Description:
Like most large global enterprises, Bechtel Corp. collects and stores large data sets for both historical and current projects. However, much of this information remained isolated in multiple data silos and dormant as untapped assets. But by creating a Big Data & Analytics Center of Excellence (BDAC) Bechtel has developed a way to access this data, learn from it, and use the knowledge gained to transform the way it operates so it can be more competitive. Consolidating years of data from hundreds of projects worldwide allows Bechtel to mine insights from past projects and utilize advance modeling techniques and machine learning to predict the outcomes on current projects. By using machine learning and predictive analytics, the BDAC is providing 'actionable insights' to its business leaders to help the company cut costs, increase its competitiveness and allow it to win more work. The BDAC now enables the company to leverage a growing data lake and data science techniques to redefine the way it does business.
