2017 Winner Profile

Celgene Corp.

Project Description:
Biopharmaceutical company Celgene Corp. has designed and built a novel solution for managing and computing vast amounts of patient-derived data with its research and development partners. Celgene's Research Computing Environment (RCE), a hybrid on-premise/cloud-based solution, allows easily configurable and highly scalable infrastructure and rapid movement of very large datasets. RCE is now being used to unravel the complexities of cancer and immune-related disorders. The project, which began in 2015, was delivered in four phases, each centered around enabling new research capabilities to increase Celgene's knowledge regarding the fundamental basis for complex diseases, and to accelerate finding and developing medicines for patients in need. RCE provides Celgene researchers and collaborators with an open and, in some cases, self-managed but secure computing environment that enables activities specific to research and early development and that has not been well-served by the corporate computing environment.
