2017 Winner Profile

Korea Electric Power Corp.

Project Description:
The Korea Electric Power Corp. (KEPCO) has been providing electricity for 21 million customers in South Korea for over a century. To accomplish its goal of being a "smart energy creator," the company developed AMI (advanced metering infrastructure) solutions, such as a smart meter, data collection device, meter data management system and a communication modem, for the smart grid in Korea. The KEPCO Research Institute has been researching the development of AMI solutions since 2005, following the Korean government's electric power IT and global smart grid plan. In Korea, AMI is recognized as the most important solution for the smart grid. KEPCO is in the process of promoting AMI to low-power-voltage customers in conjunction with the government's basic plan for an intelligent power grid. The basis for efficient energy utilization will be completed by 2020 when the AMI deployment is finished.
