2017 Winner Profile

Toyota Motor North America

Project Description:
Automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are currently facing significant challenges as the complexity and speed to develop vehicles are increasing. As a result, Toyota Motor North America's Information Systems division developed a five-year strategy to address the workforce shortfalls from the increased demands of future vehicle development. The initiative, called Advanced IT for Design & Engineering (AIT4DE), was launched in 2015 with the goal of significantly increasing engineering efficiency by providing the most effective IS technology possible. The AIT4DE initiative contains four main programs: work-style innovation and engineering efficiency; achieving business objectives; regulation, security and safety; and infrastructure stability and safety. The five-year strategy is focused on work style innovation for engineers that will result in 294,700 cumulative hours of efficiency by 2020. These hours can be reinvested to meet future development, testing and research demands, and provide Toyota with a competitive advantage over other automotive OEMs.
