Carhartt was founded in 1889 and grew to a global work wear brand. However, the digital age challenged Carhartt to update its technical platform to compete with e-commerce giants, such as Amazon, while still providing an exceptional user experience. In January 2016, John Hill joined as CIO to overhaul Carhartt's digital business in time for its two biggest sales days of the year. While many companies rush to digitize their businesses without performance support in place, Hill successfully enhanced Carhartt's business software with tools to support the transformation. As a result, Carhartt connected business and IT teams, positioning the retailer to thrive in the digital era. The company also rolled out a system to track metrics, including overall conversion and abandon rates, at each part of the customer journey, from the time they get to the homepage until the time they submit orders. This gives Carhatt the crucial visibility it needs to drive web and mobile sales. The company's digital transformation resulted in record sales of over $1 million on Cyber Monday 2016.
