2018 Winner Profile

Celgene Corp.

Project Description:
In 2016, bio-pharmaceutical company Celgene Corp. saw a real opportunity to fully harness the explosion of data in healthcare and generate insights to accelerate the development of new therapies for patients. However, the company faced many challenges analyzing the growing volume and variety of data siloed across different systems. That was because at the time Celgene's platforms didn't support modern techniques, such as machine learning, and provisioning suitable tools and data took a long time. Through the company's Information Knowledge Utilization program, Celgene developed a big data platform that provided a comprehensive catalogue of important internal and external data assets, including metadata and data lineage. The big data platform allowed users to find and request access to the data they need to answer business questions and to conduct data studies. In part, the big data solution has provided clinicians with more information about patients, enabling them to deliver more comprehensive services.
