2018 Winner Profile

Project Description:
The Covanta Intermodal Tracking System (CITS) project was launched in support of a new business that processed waste for New York City's Sanitation Department via a marine transfer station (MTS). The MTS accepts waste, places it in containers then transports it by barge to a railroad terminal. There the containers are transported by truck or rail to Covanta's facilities. IT had to develop new processes and technologies to support a new business encompassing marine, rail and logistics activities. IT successfully delivered CITS, which automates, commands and controls all operations in addition to integrating all external partners and data sources. CTIS provided the business process automation and technology system that enabled the launch of the new MTS business. In addition, this nine-month effort successfully delivered on its two key strategic objectives: the delivery of the business processes and the delivery of the software and supporting infrastructure to run the new business. And the initial forecasted $50 million to $60 million per year revenue exceed $70 million in the first full year.
