Project Description:
Mobile providers, such as Sprint, are popular targets for fraudsters and hackers who continually adapt new and creative techniques to gain unauthorized access to their network services. In the process, those cybercriminals compromise customer accounts, make fraudulent purchases and steal customer identities. To protect its customers, Sprint's fraud management team has transformed the way it detects and blocks fraudulent activity by implementing an innovative set of monitoring, data analysis and search tools from Elastic that enable the company to quickly identify and stop fraudulent behavior before customer data is exposed. As a result, Sprint has reduced fraud by 90 percent to 95 percent per day. Through this project, Sprint's fraud management and IT teams provided real value to improve the performance and efficiency of different business units inside the company. One measurement the company looks at to determine the success of its fraudulent management project is the speed in detecting fraud. Previously it took the entire fraud team six to eight days to detect anomalous or atypical behavior that might indicated fraudulent activity, but now it takes just one person minutes or hours.
